David Platt, president of the International Mission Board, has famously said "My life is a blank check before God . . . no strings attached." This is a challenging idea –– to give up complete control of our lives and follow Jesus –– but it's not unique to David Platt. To give Jesus complete control of our lives, to trust him despite what it may mean, is at the center of Christianity. When we follow Jesus, we make him Lord, i.e. - ruler and owner. Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24).
The Apostle Paul also understood that his life as a disciple of Jesus was not his own. As we gather this Sunday, we'll be studying a text where the Apostle Paul is following the leading of the Holy Spirit despite what the consequences may be. We also get the privilege of hearing Matt Gray preach, as he delivers a message entitled "Count Your Life as Nothing."
